Stacking the Shelves (2): October 20th

Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted over at Tynga's Reviews. It's a chance to share all the goodies we received, bought, borrowed or whatever over the last week.

We hope everyone's having a great weekend so far. Here's what we got this past week, the covers link to the novel's Goodreads page.

alysson's Books
I've been in a reading slump for the last week which totally sucks monkey balls since we got so many awesome titles from the library last week.  -__-  But I just haven't been on it. This week was hectic. [Feel free to skip the following paragraph where I get a little bitchy and rant...]

I had to get work done on my car Monday, which meant a two hour commute each way to the dealership back home; I had a case study project due Tuesday, and now I have a group midterm project due on Monday. And who makes group midterm research projects? Seriously?? I did not pay a shit ton of money only to have 35% of my grade be dependent on other people. Sorry, but I haven't had the best of luck when it comes to group work so I have no faith that this will go smoothly... Plus, I have control issues when it comes to people I don't know, so not putting together the final presentation makes me antsy. Ergggg ajfksjfsdfjajsdf. /end rant

Anyways, all I've read the past few days was Jeaniene Frost's Halfway in the Grave, the book before One Foot above. And to be honest, I'm listening to it on audio. I figured more adult urban fantasy and a lighter middle grade would get me back into the swing of things.

Bill's books
I thought The Rise of Nine was the last of the series? It felt like it was still setting up for another book. They're really addicting, so I got the lost files. :P

How do you get over reading slumps? Do you find switching genres or target audiences to be any help? Have you read anything above? Let us know in the comments, and leave your links!

  1. I need to read Liesl & Po so bad. I am a huge fan of Oliver's Delirium series as well as Before I fall by her so I know I will most likely enjoy Liesl. Great haul this week, hope you guys enjoy all the new goodies!

  4. Great books! You have the exact 2 Jeaniene Frost books that I still need to read :P I love the cover for Dark Descendants! I've never heard of that one. And I reaallly need to get Soulless but I'm waiting for the boxed edition.
Hm... I don't think I've ever been in a reading slump :/ Reading something you don't usually might help though! Bring in some fresh air.
Group presentations... hated them. I was also usually the one stuck with doing them or organizing everything, at least.

Thanks so much for stopping by my post! The book buying ban is hard, but then I look at the awesomeness I already have on my shelf and it gets better ;) Oh, and I love the cover for Devoured for exactly the same reason you do :D Her blueish hair and his tattoos ^^
    I followed back :)

  5. I bought Soulless and Liesl & Po a couple of weeks ago as well! And I'd really like to read Dark Descendent.

I feel your pain about group projects. I was so nervous throughout Grad School that someone would drop the ball on our group projects, but it never happened. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you both enjoy your books!

  7. alysson- Liesl and Po was really good. I hope you enjoy it. You might want to prepare yourself with a little bit of kleenex. Not too sad but there's a little. SO GOOD.

Bill-I'm actually a pretty big fan of the Morganville vamps series. I've only read up to book two because I have ZERO time, but I hope I can read more of the series soon. Enjoy!

    Happy reading guys!
