Top Ten Tuesday - October 16th: hosted by the girls at The Broke and the Bookish. We make lists each week on various categories. This week's topic is:
TOP 10 FAVORITE AUTHORS IN X GENRE
I couldn't pick just one genre, so I listed my top 5 authors of contemporary and my top 5 authors of paranormal.
Favorite contemporary authors
Maureen Johnson is my "contemporary queen". Her books are so easy to fall in to. The characters are unique and strong and go on fabulous adventures of self discovery and all that coming of age goodness. Oh and the love - don't even get me started on the romances (this post would be waaaay too long). They're fun but also discuss important issues.
Stephanie Perkins
Who doesn't love these books? I remember when Anna was released, everyone was raving about some guy named Etienne, and I was all, "Who the fudge is Etienne?!!?!" So I Googled it. Then I was hesitant to pick it up because even though I love drooling over fictional characters, the cover was just... it didn't do it for me. Unlike Lola's cover. That one is so cute and captures the book and the characters perfectly. Anyways, Stephanie Perkins is awesome. Her Acknowledgements even make me swoon.
Katie McGarry
Ally Carter
Both of Ally Carter's YA series are full of fun and action. These books are seriously addictive. I love the strong characters, perfect progression of the plot, and the development of the friendships/relationships.
Louise Rennison
I don't usually laugh when I read (like, laugh out loud laugh) but all of these books had me giggling and cracking up. They're totally over the top and ridiculous but in the best possible way. When I think "feel good books" I think Georgia.
my top 5 paranormal authors:
I love how different all of Maggie Stiefvater's books are. It's impossible to get bored with her since every series she publishes is unique from the others. While a couple of these were slow to start and a bit overwhelming, I've enjoyed all of what I've read so far.
Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
I love the writing in this book. Everything is so vivid and dynamic. I just read it last month and I can't believe I waited so long. Except I'm also really happy that I didn't have to wait years and years and years to see the movie. I would have died.
Darynda Jones
I really like reaper/death type paranormal and Darynda's characters are kick-ass and witty.
Rachel Caine
I've only read Rachel's Morganville Vampires series but these books are quick, fun, full of action, and have sweet romances. What's not to love?
Richelle Mead
Again, I've only read the Vampire Academy series but I don't think I've ever been as invested in a book's characters like I was in this series. Well, asides from Harry Potter but those books were my childhood.
What genre did you write about? Leave a link the comments, I'd love to check out your post!
- Alysson :)

ReplyDeleteI adore Stephanie Perkins, Ally Carter and Katie McGarry too ;) Just started reading Shiver, hope I like Maggie S. (her last name is really quite complicated) as much as you do too!

Great list!!! :) I'm so excited for Ally Carter's next Heist Society novel, Perfect Scoundrels, to come in February 2013! (Plus, when will I be able to read Maureen Johnson's 3rd Scarlett book?!)
